Military historian and artist Anthony M. Stencel brings a unique perspective to his works, through his uncommon combination of artistic talent and military service. His life experience and willingness to spend hundreds of hours researching every detail of the work he is creating ensure that the final result of his labor will be exceptional. Stencel served with the National Guard for 9 years, and was deployed overseas on three joint military training exercises, cross trained as an Intelligence Noncommissioned Officer, and received the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal with an oak leaf cluster. He holds a degree from the Milwaukee School of Art and Design, and has studied at the Disney Institute. He has also advanced his knowledge and skills at the side of Master Water Colorist Joseph Fettingis, AWS, NWS, and the renowned aviation artist Gil Cohen, ASAA.
A the former Director of Design for a 40 million dollar display company, Stencel has designed multi-million dollar exhibits for Fortune 500 companies and museum exhibits for the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and Harley-Davidson, among others. Now, devoting all his efforts to his passion for military artwork, Stencel strives to create historically accurate, yet human, depictions of military life, from the home front to the front lines. His art has been included in the permanent collection of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum as well as numerous public and private collections around the world. He has also been asked by the U.S. Army Historical Foundation to contribute two of his paintings for a coffee table book on the history of the U.S. Army scheduled for publication in 2004. Recently, Stencel earned a merit award for his painting titled "Major Paul Meyers & the 126th" from the Experimental Aircraft Association Sport Aviation Art Competition judges. Stencel is available for commissioned work for both organizations and individuals. Please feel free to contact him if you would like more information or have a project in mind.
